Known professionally as Diddy, Sean John Combs is an American record producer and executive, rapper, and, most importantly, a convicted felon. He was initially charged in September 2024 with numerous crimes: sex trafficking by force, transportation to engage in prostitution, and racketeering. Racketeering is a broad term that describes various illegal activities, such as fraud, bribery, extortion, violence and other crimes, that are carried out as part of a criminal enterprise to acquire and maintain power and wealth.
These charges originated from a grand jury indictment and his subsequent arrest by U.S Homeland Security investigators, which was carried out as part of an ongoing federal investigation after Sean “Diddy” Combs had a lawsuit filed against him by his former girlfriend, Casandra Venture, who allegations such as sexual assault, battery, sex trafficking, and forced sexual acts throughout their decade-long relationship. In March 2025, a superseding indictment added allegations of forced labor, which was followed by an additional charge of sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution added in April 2025.
A Homeland Security raid was launched on both of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mansions, respectively located in Los Angeles and Miami, on March 25, 2024. Agents discovered a large array of items, including drugs (ketamine, cocaine, MDMA, psilocybin), parts of AR-15 rifles, ammunition, sex toys, baby oil, lubricant, and many others. Across the two homes, a copious amount of baby oil was found, totaling up to one thousand bottles, which were linked to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ “freak off” parties.
This case has garnered immense media interest on the internet, becoming a meme with multiple slang terms being created with the word “Diddy.” For example, when someone does something that may be incorrectly interpreted as sexual or homosexual, they might say “No Diddy”, representing their lack of intention to make the situation strange.
2 days ago, on July 2, 2025, Sean “Diddy” Combs was acquitted on the most serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy in his most recent trial, but was found guilty on two lesser charges of transportation to engage in prostitution. He has been denied bail after the jury found him guilty, with the judge citing Sean Combs' history of criminal conduct and violence while he explained his reasoning behind releasing Sean Combs as he awaits sentencing.
This decision was made following a lengthy trial where prosecutors accused Sean Combs of running a criminal enterprise involving the coercion of women and sex trafficking. The charges of racketeering and sex trafficking were both dropped due to the jury’s shared sentiment of insufficient evidence. The defense argued that the nature of the relationships with the women did not have signs of coercion, despite the evidence of domestic violence. Furthermore, the defense highlighted the fact that the sexual relationships were long-term, which is not typical of sexual trafficking cases.
As Sean “Diddy” Combs was found guilty on both charges of transportation to engage in prostitution, he faces up to twenty years in prison, with each of the charges having a maximum length of ten years.
